Bradford Flood Awareness Questionnaire
The City of Bradford asked members of Council staff to complete a Flood Awareness Questionnaire that is designed to provide information to the city on how much people know about flooding and flood risk within the Bradford District, what information they would like to be provided with and how they would like that information presented. The questionnaire was made available
on the internal Council intranet and generated almost 700 responses. It has now been rolled out to the general public via the Council’s main website (www.bradford.gov.uk) and has been published in local newspapers, on the BBC website, on television screens in all the main Council offices and via the Council’s Twitter pages.

Additionally, the Drainage Services Unit is collaborating with colleagues from Bradford Council’s Environment and Climate Change Unit, and its equivalent in Kirklees Council, to provide information to politicians and the public on the implications of extreme weather events and how we need to adapt to best manage future situations. The first community engagement event was held in Baildon on the 24th March 2011. Presentations were given about Adapting to Climate Change, Flooding and Impacts on Health by speakers from Bradford Council and the National Health Service (NHS). Information stands were also provided by the
Environment Agency and British Red Cross. It is intended that more of these events are conducted throughout the year and all areas of the district will be reached via leafleting through schools and the production of a public information film that can be shown at Neighbourhood Forum meetings.
